The Perry’s take C A L I F O R N I A

What is life, but one grand adventure.

If I had to choose one word to describe this trip it would have to be A D V E N T U R E. From the moment we booked our flights I knew that we were in for an adventure of a lifetime. Let me just set the scene for those of you who might not know me. I am a planner. I am a planner down to my very core. I was that girl in school with the color coded, sticker filled planner, who was always making a “to do” list for something. I like knowing what I am doing, when I am doing it, and how I am doing it. It’s a problem. Needless to say, that wasn’t the case for this trip at all considering we booked our flight 2 weeks before we flew approximately 3,000 miles across the country. Oh, did I mention that this was me & my husband’s first flight, e v e r. I’m not going to lie, I was scared. I was real scared. Silly, right?! I mean who gets nervous for vacation?! This girl. There was no preparation and no planning whatsoever. My husband & I were sitting around one night talking about all the places that are on our bucket list and how we need to start branching out of our comfort zones and traveling to new places further away from home. Then, something clicked…what are we waiting for.  We can sit around and talk about it all we want, but why not now?! It was as easy as that, a few minutes later our flights were booked and there was officially no turning back….Let’s just say I couldn’t be more thankful for the airports “no cancellation” policy because I wouldn’t have been able to experience this trip of a lifetime that I will never forget.

Like I mentioned before this was our first flight together, ever. I have flown only once before 10+ years ago & my husband has never flown & now we were going to be on a plane for 5+ hours. Now, to most people that probably sounds like nothing…but to me 5 hours in a plane sounded like 3 days! To our surprise, the flight was a breeze…a bumpy breeze at times, but a breeze none the less! I actually enjoyed it, I was able to catch up on a couple girly chic flic movies while my husband watched hours of whatever kind of movies guys watch for hours. It was a win, win.

Before we knew it, we were flying into LA…

We had made it. We were officially in California. All the stress & worry for the past 2 weeks literally seemed to melt away the moment I walked off the plane. We were here. Let the adventure begin…

The first day/night we were staying in Santa Monica. After finding our hotel and getting settled, our first stop was the Santa Monica Pier.

The weather was absolutely perfect. I couldn’t have dreamed up a prettier afternoon. There is this thing in Florida & it’s called humidity and it pretty much ruins your life (and your hair).  We were in heaven. The rest of the afternoon we just spent exploring. After we covered the Pier we went and checked out Muscle beach & Venice! We had no agenda for the afternoon we just walked the streets & the beaches till we were absolutely exhausted. Santa Monica stole a piece of my heart that afternoon. I was in love

and the views weren’t too bad either…

One of the things my husband mentioned to me before our trip was that it has been on his bucket list to just drive the Pacific Coastal Highway. So today, that is what we did. We hoped in the car, again, with no agenda or plans for the day and drove…We drove for miles & miles along the Coastal Highway stopping of course along the way anytime we saw somewhere or something we wanted to stop and see.

Looking back this was one of my favorite days. No plans, no “to do” lists…just my husband and I exploring places we have never been, together. It was was a perfect day.

By the afternoon of day 2 we had pretty much covered all the beach areas & it was time to head to our next hotel in the Hollywood Hills. As hard as it was to leave the beaches of Santa Monica I was excited to see what other sites LA had to offer. After surviving the drive across town (LA drivers are seriously no joke) and finding our next hotel we wandered down to Hollywood Blvd for an afternoon stroll down the Walk of Fame.

For all my Disney lovers out there lol

This is literally one of the only pictures I have from Hollywood Blvd. Trust me there is so much going on around you, you don’t have time to take pictures! We ended day 2 with a quick walk down Sunset Blvd and then it was back to our hotel for pizza in bed kind of night! Yes, chill nights are acceptable even on vacation!

Day 3 was all about those city views. We woke at about 5am about every morning out there (thank you 3 hour time difference) so all of our days started pretty early and today we were going hiking. Thanks to a little bit of Pinterest research I stumbled upon Runyon Canyon Park. This place was amazing and filled with city views from every angle.

City Views ft. Smog

Looking for lunch…these hikes were no joke LOL

After being teased by the Hollywood sign in the distance all morning during our hike we decided to get a closer look…

This day was filled with so much adventure. It was like we were kids again on a scavenger hunt. We drove & hiked all day searching for all the best places for those city views & views of the Hollywood sign. After we finished hiking all over the city we were starving and we knew we couldn’t leave California without a famous In & Out burger! After lunch we went back to the hotel for a quick power nap…yes we are those people who take power naps LOL Since the theme for day 3 was city views we decided what better place to end the day than the Griffith Observatory. The city views from this place were unreal. Several people recommended that we check this place out on our trip & I am so happy that they did…

It was honestly the perfect place to end the day.

So by the this point in our trip, we had covered the beaches, we had hiked & drove all through the Hills & Hollywood and we had seen city views that would last a lifetime. We had just one more day left & what better way to end the trip than to explore Beverly Hills!

D A Y 4...last day (insert all the sad face emojis here)

Day 4 was all about exploring the lives of the rich & the famous & the first spot was none other than Rodeo Drive! We couldn’t have picked a prettier day to walk through Beverly Hills! I wish more than anything I could have bottled up the weather out there and brought it back with me to Florida! I spent the first part of the day window shopping as my husband was entertained with by all the cars.

Who knew walking around all day pretending you’re important could be so much fun?! We walked for hours this day…

You know your husband loves you when he walks for miles just so you can take a picture with a wall painted pink! LOL He’s a keeper!

After exploring Beverly Hills for the majority of the day it was time to head back and get ready for our early flight back the next morning! As we made our way back to our hotel I just remember feeling such a rush of emotions. I couldn’t believe that the past 4 days had already come and gone. Just like that it was, over. I felt sad of course, sad to see such an amazing trip come to end. But I also felt a sense of happiness. We had done it. We had accomplished something I have wanted to do for YEARS but have always been to scared to do. I like my comfort zone. I like my bubble. I have been like that since as long as I can remember. But you know what? You don’t get to experience trips like this & memories and adventures like these all bubbled up in your comfort zone.

Now for those of you who are reading this who are thinking…wow, you flew to California for a couple days…big deal…trust me, I get it. I completely get it. But this trip was so much more to me than that. It was a trip that I will cherish the rest of my life. It was more than just a vacation. So for those of you out there that are just like me holding back because your scared to go somewhere unknown or do something you’ve never done…just remember, life is precious & life is short. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this experience it’s memories are never made within your comfort zone. So go, do, see, travel, take chances.

Today is my 27th Birthday and every year I try to pick my “one word” for the upcoming year. So if I had to choose one word to describe what I want out of life this next year it would be, a d v e n t u r e.

After all…what is life but one grand adventure

I know this is different than my normal home decor posts but one of the reasons I started this blog was my love for writing! Whether it’s writing about paint samples & diy or my life I love it all! Let me know if ya’ll enjoy these “life” posts, any feedback is much appreciated!
